Electric Transport Properties Modified by Incomplete Cycling on Heating (ICH) in TiNi Based Alloys

چکیده
The investigations till now performed on the Step-wise Martensite to Austenite Reversible Transformation (SMART) have identified the relevant key features both of the transformation itself and of the Incomplete Cycling on Heating (ICH), procedure required to induce the SMART. The SMART phenomenology, proved in several shape memory alloys, appears quite general, despite of the differences both in the kinetic and in the crystallographic characters of the thermoelastic martensitic transformations involved. The microstructural mechanism underlying SMART has however not yet been clarified. A working hypothesis, already advanced, is based on the idea that the ICH procedure is effective in inducing kinetic barriers, related to local assemblies of defects localized in the martensite phase; that, however, contrasts, at least in TiNi, with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Electrical Resistance (ER) measurements which support an increasing structural order as a consequence of the ICH procedure. With the aim to gain further insight into the microstructural modifications in martensite, induced by the ICH procedure, ER measurements have been here undertaken both on a Ti49 gNi5 0 0 (at%) and on a Ti50Ni45Cu5 (at%) alloys. The experimental findings are discussed and contrasted with the ones already obtained on TiNi alloys.

Structural, gaseous phase hydrogen storage, and electrochemical properties of a series of the Ti50Zr1Ni44X5 (X = Ni, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, or Cu) metal hydride alloys were studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the multi-phase nature of all alloys, which were composed of a stoichiometric TiNi matrix, a hyperstoichiometric TiNi minor phase, and a Ti2Ni seconda...
متن کاملFatigue behavior of TiNi foams processed by the magnesium space holder technique.
While the wide range of applications of TiNi alloys makes them highly appealing due to their shape memory and superelasticity properties, the production of TiNi in the porous form further enlarges their application fields. Porous TiNi alloys have been studied extensively for biomedical applications since their elastic modulus is similar to that of bone. Accordingly, TiNi foams have been widely ...
متن کاملAn investigation on metallurgical and mechanical properties of vacuum brazed Ti-6Al-4V to 316L stainless steel using Zr-based filler metal
Both Ti-6Al-4V and 316L stainless steels are widely used as engineering alloys. Fusion welding of these two alloys is not easily possible due to their incomplete solubility in each other. Brazing is one of the best choices for joining dissimilar alloys. In this study, wettability experiments were done at 940 and 970 ºC for 5, 15 and 30 min. Also, joining of these two alloys was carried out at 9...

In this work TiNi-based nanocrystalline alloys and composite were produced by mechanical alloying process with subsequent annealing at 750 ◦C for 0.5 h. Mechanical alloying was performed in a SPEX 8000 Mixer Mill. TiNi alloy was chemically modi ed by Ag elemental powder. Silver content equaled 5 wt%. X-ray di raction analyses revealed formation of TiNi main phase after annealing. Additionally, ...
